These desires mobilized to look for common values – what unites, not what divides.

The tree inscribed in the emblem of the University, a symbol of durability and growth, reminds us that the UWM stands by respect for tradition and in readiness for constant change. The roots of the University draw from the experience of many academic centres important for the history of the region, primarily – Olsztyn universities, the merger of which resulted in the establishment of the UWM in 1999.

Enduring values based on the scientific search for truth constitute a common trunk from which new branches of scientific disciplines and fields of study grow. The research conducted here is the realization of the scientific ambitions of the university employees and a response to the challenges of the present day.

Kortowo, where history meets modernity, enjoys the reputation of one of the most beautiful academic campuses in Poland and Europe. The university campus, with its lakes and ubiquitous greenery, is a beautiful showcase of Warmia’s nature. In a symbolic dimension, it also reminds us of the University’s ties with the region. Awareness of these relationships and social responsibility make the UWM not only a cultural and opinion-forming place, a partner for local governments and the economic environment, but also an inspirer of the broadly understood development of Warmia and Mazury. The University also acts as an intermediary in the transfer of new technologies and enables companies to use the latest research results, constituting a scientific showcase of Olsztyn and the region.

The university regularly increases the number of authorizations to confer Doctoral and Postdoctoral degrees, creating opportunities for career development for researchers. The need for continuous growth is also reflected both in the successive scientific successes of the UWM staff and in the constantly modernised and expanded university infrastructure.
